The most attractive places in Prague and its surroundings
Prague
Transportation: on foot or metro, tram, bus |
It is one of the largest squares in Europe. But we are interested in seemingly small details. The Divine Tetragrammaton can be seen in one of the local churches. The building on the opposite side of the square once served as a prison and during the Second World War several of our brothers and sisters were detained there. From the neighboring tower is a beautiful view of Prague.

The street called “Národní třída” and Bethlehem Square
The area around the street Národní třída is closely linked to the history of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Prague. We will show you several interesting addresses. At the same Národní třída some events occurred at the end of 1989, which subsequently led to the fall of communism in the former Czechoslovakia. Not far from here, on the Bethlehem Square, there is a replica of the chapel, where the religious reformer Jan Hus delivered his flame sermons at the beginning of the 15th century. Up to three thousand listeners accommodate inside.
Old Town Square
One of the main squares in the historical area of Prague. You can see the unique medieval astronomical tower clock – the famous Old Town Astronomical Clock. We will stop at one of the important milestones of the Thirty Years’ War and also at the propaganda memorial of religious preacher Jan Hus. In one of the side streets we will look at the places where the house of the printer Jiří Melantrich from Aventino used to be. His Bible, printed in the second half of the 16th century, was one of the most widespread Czech translations for many centuries. The Tetragrammaton can be found in one of the editions.
Synagogues in Josefov
North of the Old Town Square was once a large closed Jewish town. It ceased to exist more than a hundred years ago. However, the Tetragrammaton can be found in several existing synagogues. The Jewish scholar Yehuda ben Becalel is also buried in the local Jewish cemetery. It is said that he once created a clay statue that he tried to revive with the help of God’s name. We will explain the context with the help of the Bible during a tour.
Charles Bridge
The stone bridge from the second half of the 14th century connects the right and left banks of Vltava river. The name of the building is derived from Emperor Charles IV, who initiated the construction of the bridge. The bridge is a magnificent work of Gothic architecture. Later it was supplemented by thirty mostly baroque statues. On two of them was placed Tetragrammaton. To the present, one has been preserved and has a very interesting history.
God’s name on Prague sights
Several other historical monuments with JHVH are located in the vicinity of Charles Bridge. We can visit some of them together.
Prague Castle
If we ascend to the hill where the Prague Castle is located, we can observe the whole area bellow us. We can relax in one of the castle gardens. You will also see a window where the Thirty Years’ War began in 1618. We will also draw your attention to the local Catholic temple, where you can see a sculpture of Christ on a torture stake.
Do you want to see anything else? We will be glad if you write to us about it.
